NATIONAL HANDLOOM DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (NHDC)

1. INTRODUCTION :-

National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) Ltd., Lucknow was set up in February, 1983 as a Public Sector Undertaking by the Government of India as an autonomous body under the Companies Act, 1956, in pursuance of the imperative need for a National Level Agency to assist the speedy development of the Handloom Sector by coordinating all action covering the procurement and supply of inputs at reasonable prices, augmenting the marketing efforts of the state handloom agencies and initiating development activities for upgrading the technology in the handloom sector and improving their productivity. 

2. OBJECTIVES :-

The main objectives of the Corporation are :- 

i. To carry out the business of all types of yarn for the benefit of the handloom sector. 

ii. To organize supply of quality dyes and related materials needed by the handloom sector. 

iii. To promote marketing of handloom fabrics including exports. 

iv. To aid, assist and implement the projects connected with the production of handloom fabrics include taking up modernisation programme, introduction appropriate technology for the handloom sector. 

3. MAIN ACTIVITIES :-

The Mill Gate Price Scheme is implemented through the Corporation. The Corporation had also set up National Handloom Marketing Complexes in different parts of the country to present Handloom products under one roof. It also organises exhibitions to promote sale of Handloom products and dyeing workshop for the benefit of the Handloom weavers.
